Pohjolan Pirtti - Country House

We wish you a warm welcome to Pohjola, our family estate located in Vuotunki, one of the oldest villages in Kuusamo.

The estate is situated close to the Russian border, in the middle of the northern Finnish wilderness. The origins of the estate can be tracked back to 1686, when the Finnish ancestors of the Pohjola family arrived at this beautiful spot next to Lake Vuotunki having skied cross country from the Sotkamo region, over 200 km to the South . The current house, Pohjolan Pirtti, dates from  1891 and is constructed from old hand-crafted timber. The house sits on top of a slope with a traditional Finnish countryside vista, over the beautiful lake Vuotunkijärvi.

A restaurant is operated at Pohjolan Pirtti. You can enjoy delicious food cooked in the Finnish or Russian way, made from local ingredients honouring the heritage and traditions of the region. Our Great-grandmother´s old recipes when consulted preparing the menu of our Finnish Evening.
